| It goes without saying that the engineers at HK are not content to rest on their laurels. There is much under development whose information will only be released to the public perhaps years from now. Latest to become from HK, and first seen here in detail is the "PDW." PDW stands for 'Personal Defense Weapon.' This unfortunately is going to be a bit confusing for the student of HK, because this is the third firearm by HK to have 'PDW''as either all or part of its name. The others are: MP5K-PDW, and the prototype G11 PDW. |

| Apparently operational GR2 in black. |
| Update: 6/2001 When I originally published this page, I had never seen a GR series firearm that was apparently a production model. I was recently emailed a photo of this firearm from an anonymous source in Europe. He wishes to remain so, and informed me that the only markings anywhere on this gun are "178" and "1N" on the barrel. (178 means 1/7" twist rate and the 1N is a proof mark.) It clearly has the old style markings on an ambidextrous burst group, that being S-E-3F-F rather than the more common pictogram markings. The most fascinating things about this gun are the permanently mounted scope, by an unidentified presumably German scope manufacturer and the missing front sight, no longer necessary because of the scope. 25 round magazine is in place, as is the old style "convex" A3 buttstock. The forearm is clearly an MP5 forearm. (Notice the gap between the front of the magazine well and the rear of the forearm?) This gap is covered by an HK53 forearm.
The scope has different windage and elevation adjustments than those in the GR series brochure. This gun really does not have a name, but since the GR2C and GR2S below are short for "German Rifle 2 Colored" and "German Rifle 2 Sand" for the woodland and |

The P2000 Subcompact |
|

| It is no longer a rumor. At long last, visual proof that the P2000 Subcompact is alive and well, albeit in prototype form. These exclusive photos were taken by HKPRO boards member Gunhead, who is among other things, a gun writer in Hungary. He broke the story on the boards on March 18. Gunhead had the foresight to ask HK GmbH at the IWA show in Nuremburg, Germany March 14-17, and was undoubtedly surprised to find out that they happened to have one in the back! He was allowed to photograph it, and I just received permission to display the photos. So, first of all, many thanks to Gunhead for his valuable contribution to HKPRO.COM.
This prototype is serial number 121-000003. The gun retains the features of the full size P2000, including the replaceable backstraps of different sizes as well as the ambidextrous slide release, and a barrel length of about three inches. Perhaps the best news is that the magazines will be interchangeable with the full size P2000, a first for an HK pistol design. This will make little difference other than for handhold for the American shooter, given the restrictions on magazine capacity and the ten round limitation. The flush fit magazine also holds ten rounds. First production delivery is slated for the latter half of 2004, first to European police units, so it may be some time before the gun is available for sale in the United States. But it is no longer a rumor, you have proof here that the prototype is built, and further design and testing will lead to the newest, as yet unnamed P2000 variant. Will it be called the P2000K? Or will "Subcompact" stick? HKPRO members have been calling for a USP/P2000 subcompact for some time now. It is great to see this desire become reality. More information to follow as soon as it becomes available.
